Light as medicine

Red Light Therapy

Photobiomodulation uses precise wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to energise your mitochondria, calm inflammation and accelerate tissue repair. Clinically validated after blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty and abdominoplasty, it is one of the most elegant tools in our recovery suite.

Cellular biostimulation

Red and near-infrared photons (600 to 1100 nm) are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase, increasing ATP synthesis and modulating reactive oxygen species. The result is more energy for the cells doing the work of healing.

Less bruising, less swelling

Randomised controlled trials show 830 nm LED reduces periorbital swelling and pain after blepharoplasty, and 660 nm LED measurably reduces ecchymosis and oedema in the first two weeks after rhinoplasty.

Better scars over time

A double-blinded trial on post-abdominoplasty scars demonstrated significantly improved scar quality on the PBM-treated side within six months, reflecting improved collagen organisation during cicatrisation.

Wellness, performance and skin

Outside of recovery, PBM supports muscle repair after training, skin rejuvenation and hair growth in androgenetic alopecia. Sessions integrate naturally with HBOT, lymphatic drainage and our wider longevity protocols.

"The right wavelength, at the right dose, changes how a cell heals."

Questions

Red Light Therapy in Belfast

What is Red Light Therapy?+

Red Light Therapy, also called photobiomodulation (PBM) or low-level laser therapy (LLLT), uses non-thermal red and near-infrared light, typically 600 to 1100 nm. Photons are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria, increasing ATP production, modulating reactive oxygen species and releasing nitric oxide.

How does Red Light Therapy support surgical recovery?+

PBM accelerates cellular repair, reduces inflammatory mediators and improves the organisation of collagen during scar formation. Randomised and double-blinded trials have demonstrated benefit after abdominoplasty (improved scar quality), blepharoplasty (reduced periorbital swelling and pain with 830 nm LED) and rhinoplasty (less bruising and oedema with 660 nm LED).

What wellness benefits does it offer beyond surgery?+

Photobiomodulation is established in sports medicine for faster muscle recovery and reduced DOMS, in dermatology for fine lines, photo-ageing and acne, and in trichology for stimulating hair growth in androgenetic alopecia. Transcranial near-infrared light is being studied for cognitive and neuroprotective effects.

How does it work alongside HBOT?+

HBOT increases the oxygen available to every tissue. Red Light Therapy stimulates the mitochondria to use that oxygen more efficiently to produce ATP. Combined, they form a synergistic regenerative protocol that we layer with lymphatic drainage, IV nutrition and nursing care for a comprehensive recovery.

Is Red Light Therapy safe?+

PBM has an excellent safety profile. It is non-thermal, non-ionising and does not damage DNA. We provide protective eyewear and tailor wavelength, dose and session length to your skin type, procedure and recovery stage.

How soon after surgery can I begin?+

PBM is most effective in the early stages of healing. With your surgeon's clearance, sessions can often begin within the first week to capture the most pronounced reduction in bruising and swelling.
